Summer Camp Season

Make Steel City Rowing Club your kids’ destination for the summer! Choose from competitive or recreational rowing programs, or take a deep dive into learning about our watershed!

LEarn to row

AGES 12-17

Steel City’s Learn to Row Camps have up to 15 on-the-water practices each week which allows campers to acquire skills quickly. The goal of this Learn To Row is to have campers rowing with confidence, working effectively in a team environment, and having a blast enjoying the river with new friends. All of this prepares the campers to progress on to the next stage of rowing.

Campers are introduced to the basics of rowing and water safety by one of our USRowing certified coaches. During the campers will progress from sweep rowing, (one oar per person in 8 or 4 person boats) to sculling,  (2 oars per person, in 4, 2 and 1 person boats).

Space is limited to 16 campers per session.

Steel City believes no one should be turned away for financial reasons. Aid will be available upon request and upon approval.

eco adventure

DIFFERENT SESSIONS AVAILABLE FOR

AGES 8-10 AND AGES 11-14

This is not your average summer camp experience! Each session is a five-day deep dive into the ecology of our rivers. Campers will perform water quality monitoring and study habitat improvement, led by the Vice President of Education from Allegheny Land Trust, Jessica Kester.

The week’s activities include a field trip to a water processing plant or waste management facility, a half-day watershed ecology program led by the Allegheny County Conservation District, and will end in a group project chosen by the campers to demonstrate what they learned. What projects you select remain to be seen!

Finally, there will be a chance for campers to share their knowledge with local residents. These projects will be on display at the Carnegie Public Library and the Verona Public Library for the month of August.

Space is limited to 14 campers per session.
